Hello,
I bill for a large orthopaedic practice that has our own Physical Therapy department. Can you go over how the upcoming changes to modifier 59 will affect billing for PT/OT evaluations, reevaluations, and exercises?

Hi Aja,

I think they will be affected as other specialties - only for their Medicare patients though until when/if other payers jump on the band wagon.

Here is a related forum post on the new XE, XS, XP and XU modifiers that are to be used instead of modifier 59 for Medicare patients https://www.cco.us/forum/threads/modifier-59-xe-xs-xp-and-xu.2517/

JoAnne Sheehan covered this on our webinar this past Thursday if you missed it join the replay club and you'll get access to the recording and much much more!
